Set a limit and every file is fitted under it: the highest quality that fits first, then a smaller size only if it must.

How the limit is met

Quality is searched first, between 30 and the rule's own quality, by halving the range. Only when quality 30 is still too big does the picture get smaller, in steps of 10%. The ledger line for each file prints the quality it ended at and whether the size was stepped down.

A floor, for forms that reject files under 10 or 20 KB, raises quality instead. If even quality 100 is under the floor the file is written and marked rather than padded.

Common limits

20 KB and 50 KB for exam and job forms; 100 to 200 KB for listings and email; 2 MB for upload portals with a generous cap. They are all the same control: type the number, or press one of the buttons above the workspace.

Questions about resize image in KB

Will it hit exactly 20 KB?

No tool can promise an exact byte count without padding the file with junk, which this one never does. It finds the highest quality that comes in at or under the limit, so a 20 KB limit usually lands a little under 20 KB.

Is 1 KB 1,000 or 1,024 bytes here?

1,024, the stricter reading, because forms rarely say. The ledger prints both: 49.6 KB · 50,790 bytes.

Why did one photo stay above the limit?

If quality 30 is still too big, the picture is made 10% smaller up to three times. If it is still over after that, the smallest attempt is written and its line is marked, so you can choose a smaller size by hand.

Can it do a whole folder?

Yes. Drop the folder, and every file gets its own search. Each one is encoded up to eight times, so a KB run takes longer than a plain resize.

Is the photo uploaded?

No. Every encode happens on your device, and the archive is built there.
